New Version of API 579 to Be Released

04/05/06

The new version of API 579 is scheduled for release as API/ASME Fitness-For-Service standard in June 2006. The document has been expanded to address material damage mechanisms other than just those commonly found in refining industry equipment. The chapters are now called Parts rather than Sections to avoid confusion with sections of the ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code. The following major changes are incorporated into the new document:

  • The assessment procedures for gouges have been taken out of Part 5 and are now in a new Part 12.
  • Assessment procedures for HIC/SOHIC damage have been added to Part 7.
  • Assessment procedures for bulges in Part 8 are being modified, and assessment procedures for dents in Part 8 have been move to a new Part 12.
  • Assessment procedures for equipment operating in the creep range are now available in Part 10.
  • Assessment procedures for dents, gouges, and dent/gouge combinations are now in a new Part 12.
  • Assessment of laminations has been removed from Part 7 and put in a new Part 13.

Appendices B, C, E, F, H, and K have been enhanced. All of the example problems have been removed and will be published in a separate document. Send us a message if you’d like to notified as soon as the new publication is available – information@fitness4service.com.
